The Letter (insert)
Art Libraries Journal (Volume 27, Number 2, 2002)
The Art Libraries Journal is published by ARLIS/UK & Ireland for the international art library community. I was one of two visual artists invited by editor Peter Trepanier of the National Gallery of Canada Library to produce artist’s projects for this issue. I developed a piece for this edition based on its theme of capturing time. In keeping with the voyeuristic thread running through my work, I developed an insert disguised as a handwritten letter absentmindedly forgotten in the journal as a bookmark. 750 copies of this letter were off-set printed on onion-skin paper, crumpled and inserted in the journal’s circulation. Despite the fact that The letter (insert) by Vera Greenwood was entered in the table of contents and a paragraph in the editorial discussed my project, many blue letters were returned to the editor, assuring him that they had remained unread.
